San Diego’s Miramar neighborhood, with its plentiful industrial space, has become a hub for craft brewing and is sometimes referred to as ‘Beeramar’. Taking a larger swath from Sorrento Valley to Scripps Ranch, the area has 17 breweries and it’s just over 11 miles from New English Brewing to Night Parade Brewing Co via Miramar Road. One could easily visit them all in one day, but no one should try to drink at all of them in one day! That’s without even considering the cider, mead, wine, sake, hard kombucha, and spirits tasting rooms that have begun to occupy the neighborhood. These pages are an attempt to consolidate information about each brewery or taproom so visitors can plan their trips and find the spaces that best match their tastes.

Click on a link above to see a description of the brewery. The information you will find is summarized below, but this guide is updated infrequently, so there is some information you will not find here. The descriptions don’t show hours of operation or precise locations; please use Google for these. It also doesn’t show current tap offerings or event schedules; go to the breweries websites or social media pages to find up-to-date information. If an above link is not active, I haven’t visited the brewery yet, but I plan to soon!

The Beer

The Big Board

  • A picture of the beers available when I visited. This is not the current selection, but will give an idea of the variety of beer offered.

Number of Taps

  • How many taps are in use?, i.e., how many beer varieties are being offered on draft?
  • Percentage of IPAs: Some people love IPAs, some people stay away from them, and some people are just over them, but San Diego breweries will always have a wide selection. This tells you how many tap handles have something identified by the brewery as an IPA; West Coast, hazy, imperial, or otherwise.

Signature Beer

  • Sometimes their longest brewed beer, or their most awarded, or just the one most associated with the brewery

What’s the Best Thing Ya Got?

  • It’s always a good idea to ask the bartenders which beers they are particularly proud of. These beers are others recommended to me beyond the signature beers. Everyone’s tastes vary, but these may be good starting points.

eBay Platinum Reserve

  • What’s the biggest, rarest, or just weirdest selection that you will only find by being at the brewery on the right day? Of course, you will not find the same beers I found, but this is a look at what treasures there may be.

For the Couch

  • Do they have beer available to take home, either in growlers, crowlers, or cans and bottles for sale at the tasting room?

The Space

Indoor Capacity

  • The size of the room, either by fire marshal capacity or number of tables

Outdoor Seating

  • One of the major draws of San Diego breweries is the ability to sip a beer on the patio in February

Food Service

  • The food served by the brewery itself or partner food trucks, or maybe just a good taqueria down the street. Tasting rooms which aren’t restaurants themselves usually welcome outside food.

Exit Through Gift Shop

  • The bigger tasting rooms will send you home with souvenirs

The Scene

Entertainment

  • Does the room have music or television? Do they have live music or trivia nights?

Fun and Games

  • What other types of diversions are found here, aside from the beer?

Babies and Bowsers

  • Are children and dogs welcome here? Many San Diego tasting rooms allow well-behaved kids and pups.

Extras

  • What else makes this space stand out?
